'Never in our wildest dreams, we did expect this reaction'

  • Hannah Ingram-Moore - the daughter of Captain Tom Moore - has been telling Stray FM about the overwhelming reaction from the public over his NHS fundraising.
  • The 99-year-old set out to raise £1,000 two weeks ago for the health service.
  • Now, millions of people have donated to the fund which is near to £30m.

The daughter of NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore says the war veteran is overwhelmed at the response from the public.

The 99-year-old has raised millions of pounds for the health service by doing 100 laps of his garden.

We've caught up with Hannah Ingram-Moore, who told us all the family have been surprised at the global response to Tom's efforts.

The war veteran officially opened the NHS Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate on Tuesday (21 April).

Stray FM's breakfast presenter Nick Hancock and Will Smith, drive time presenter, spoke to Hannah:

Captain Tom raised the phenomenal amount by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

On Tuesday, the former Army soldier - who grew up in Keighley - appeared via video link at the opening of the Yorkshire and Humber NHS Nightingale Hospital.

A virtual ceremony was held to open the 500-bed facility at Harrogate Convention Centre, the first of seven field hospitals built outside a city.

Captain Tom received a standing ovation from NHS staff and military personnel.
