Katie Higham runs Katie’s Classroom, an online learning resource with video tutorials.

She started the sessions to help children and also take the pressure off parents during the lockdown.

The sessions are for children aged between 3 and 6.

Katie is a mum of four and was a teacher for seven years before setting up Katie’s Classroom in 2016.

She said:

“While teaching I realised I wanted to help parents understand how their children were being taught in the classroom, and to provide them with a service that would explain lesson terminology and methodology.

"The phonics sessions are really fun. gentle, 20 minute sessions, there's no pressure involved.  We sing a few songs, we look at the sounds in words - I do six sounds per session.

"I'm giving something back to the community, the children love it because it adds structure to their day, parents love it because they can leave their child to it  and know that they're getting something out of it while they go and have a cup of tea, or organise if they have more than one child."
