Coronavirus: Knareborough girl climbs the equivalent of Mount Everest on her staircase for charity

A girl from Knaresborough has climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest on her staircase to raise money for charity. 

  • Belle Gough from Knaresborough has raised more than  £1,300 for McMillan Cancer Support.
  • She's climbed the equivalent of Mount Everest on her staircase to raise money for the charity.  
  • She climbed the stairs for more than 30 hours over the space of week.

11 year-old Belle Gough has raised more than £1,300 for McMillan Cancer Support so far.  

She climbed the stairs for more than 30 hours over the space of week.

In total, she climbed 8,848 metres - or 3,404 sets of her 13-stair staircase.   

Although's she now finished the challenge, she's still raising money and is encouraging people to donate.  

Belle said:

"There was lots of challenges - running a marathon in your garden, or to climb mountains or certain heights - I chose to climb the height of Mount Everest!"

Her mum Ziva said:

"She was finding it harder and harder to keep the momentum up, so she was listening to audiobooks.  

"She set herself mini-challenges, so she'd choose a song from the playlist and she'd do twenty or thirty times up and down the stairs by the end of the song."
