  • Working at night, it is expected the first deep clean will take around two weeks to complete.

A deep clean of Harrogate town centre is underway.

Harrogate BID has appointed Yorkshire-based UK Nationwide Cleaning Services for the work.

Working at night, it is expected the first deep clean will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Harrogate BID Interim Manager Simon Kent said:

“Following the hiatus caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Harrogate BID is now beginning to deliver the objectives set out in the business plan.

In a recent survey of the town centre businesses, the vast majority of those who responded said their number one priority was a deep clean. I’m delighted to say that we are now just days away from fulfilling this."

In a recent survey sent out by the organisation to town centre businesses and levy payers, a deep clean of the streets was cited as the number one priority for the BID to undertake.

It's ahead of the potential reopening of some high street shops on June 15.

Whilst Harrogate Borough Council looks after regular street sweeping and bin emptying, the work the BID will fund goes above and beyond the authority’s statutory duty.

The deep clean will include power washing of all pavements and islands within the Harrogate BID area on an annual cycle to remove grime, graffiti, chewing gum, algae and moss.

They will also be power washing a small number of key hotspot areas on a more regular basis, clean empty shop unit frontages as required, and additional litter picking and hotspot cleaning early on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
