Bradford Council lifts restrictions on birth registrations and booking weddings

Published by The Stray FM News Team at 8:54am 4th July 2020.

New parents can now register births and couples can start planning weddings and civil partnership ceremonies

  • The change was announced with the easing of restrictions.
  • Registering was temporarily suspend at the end of March
  • Currently the Register Office has over 2200 babies to register.

The Council is urging residents who need to register births to be patient while colleagues work their way through this backlog. This is a unique situation which the Register team is working tirelessly to resolve.

Birth registrations are by appointment only and can be arranged by phoning 01274 432151.

All deaths and still-birth registrations are continuing to be registered by telephone.

Cllr Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council said:

"It's good that births can now be registered and people can start making plans for their weddings or civil partnerships, but everyone needs to be aware that the Register Office will now have a huge backlog of work after having to suspend some of their key services for three months, So waiting times are likely to be longer than usual.

"Things will also look and feel very different as measures have been put in place, including measures to maintain social distancing for the safety of the public and our staff."
