Beauticians in England can re-open from Monday, but that's over a week later than hairdressers.

  • Sarah Wilkinson expected to be able to re-open alongside hairdressers last weekend, but says they feel they're 'at the bottom of the pile'
  • The government have now announced that they can re-open in England from Monday

The beauty industry was 'forgotton' and 'put to the bottom of the pile', according to the owner of a West Yorkshire salon.

Sarah Wilkinson, who runs Equilibrium in Silsden, says her salon is ready to re-open safely.

Despite hairdressers in England being allowed to welcome back customers from last weekend, their beautician colleagues have to wait until Monday.

Sarah Wilkinson said:

"We've always been categorised together with hair, it's just a standard thing that's always happened, it felt very much like we didn't exist.

"Overnight, literally, our profession seemed to be put to the bottom of the pile. We felt overlooked and we felt belittled."

Sarah has set up a waiting list for her regular clients and says she's ready to re-open her salon with significant safety and hygiene measures in place.

She added:

"All of our staff and myself will be working shifts, so there will only ever be one therapist and one client in the salon at any one time.

"When the client arrives for their appointment, we kindly ask them to wait outside, and we will then invite them into the salon, hand them a mask if they don't have one and give them hand sanitiser."
