A Harrogate charity is thanking people for donations after what it's describing as a 'remarkable' response.

  • Saint Michael's Hospice has reopened six of its charity shops
  • It's running a drop-off point for donations in Harrogate
  • The charity says it's had a "remarkable" response
  • It's thanking the community for their support during the coronavirus crisis

Saint Michael's Hospice opened six of its charity shops on Saturday 4th July as lockdown restrictions were eased. Social distancing and safety measures are in place at each shop.

The six shops that have reopened are:

  • House and Home, 196 Ripon Road, Harrogate

  • 107 Cold Bath Road, Harrogate

  •  42 Church Avenue, Harrogate

  • 149 Kings Road, Harrogate

  • 36 Market Place, Knaresborough

  • 6 North Street, Ripon

The charity says it's had a "magnificent" amount of donations, meaning its shops can be kept well stocked.

It's running a designated drop-off point at the Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate off Hookstone Wood Road, which is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. Every item donated is being quarantined for 72 hours. The charity says you do not need to book beforehand and people can just turn up to make a donation.

The charity is thanking the public for their support during the coronavirus crisis, and is urging people to keep up the donations.

Chief Executive of Saint Michael's Hospice, Tony Collins said:

"My message to the community starts with a great big thank you for the way you've responded throughout this.

"We've felt very, very supported and encouraged during some very challenging times.

"Please bear with us as we look to reopen all of our shops over a period of time and just keep as safe as you possibly can.

"The response has been magnificent, there must be a lot of empty attics and garages after this!"
