Two men have been arrested after a police officer was seriously injured after being dragged by a car in Keighley.

  • It happened on Friday around 5:50pm on Ashleigh Street.
  • Two men aged 28 and 30 have been arrested. 

It happened on Friday around 5:50pm on Ashleigh Street as officers tried to stop the vehicle.  

Two officers approached the Toyota Yaris which was parked outside a shop on Ashleigh Street.  There were two men inside the car, one of whom made off on foot.  The driver started to drive off, and the police officer was dragged along the road.  The car later the collided with a tree.  

A large quantity of Class A drugs was later found, as well as an air rifle.

Two men, aged 28 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of class A drugs offences. 

The 30 year-old man was charged with assault and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The police officer who was injured as a result of the incident, suffered serious injuries to his leg and received hospital treatment.

Detective Inspector Ryan Bragg, of Bradford CID, said:

“This was an incredibly distressing incident for the officers involved as they were going about their daily duties. One of the officers has suffered a serious injury to his leg, but has since been discharged from hospital and recovering at home.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has any further information to come forward and speak to us to assist with our ongoing investigation.”
