A Harrogate youngster has gone on a life-changing trip abroad, after members of the public helped fund a major operation.

6-year-old Chrissy Maltby, who suffers from cerebral palsy, is having specialist surgery in America.

His family have spent months raising money and holding events as part of 'Chrissy’s Quest'.

Chrissy has previously revealed his wish to be able to walk like his twin brother David.

Mum Fiona Maltby, who has worked tirelessly to make the trip happen, said: "It has been really difficult. The operation and the aftercare is going to cost in the region of £58,000, so without the help of family, friends and neighbours, and the generosity of the Harrogate public, we wouldn’t have been able to get this far.

"Thankfully just before Christmas we did reach our target."

The family has thanked everyone who has contributed.
