Behind Closed Doors - Day 3: YMCA Skipton

Pinder House

(Updated 10:32am 23rd September 2013)

On day three of Stray FM's news special, young people from Skipton's YMCA talk about how their life has changed thanks to the charity.

Pinder House opened its doors in 1995, causing controversy among locals who argued the town didn't need a YMCA.

Since then, it has helped over 200 young people in need of accommodation get on their feet and turn their lives around.

It doesn't just provide a room. The charity is dedicated to ensuring young people gain essential skills to become independent. It actively encourages them to work, study and get out into the local community.

They regularly get stuck into activities such as fundraising, volunteering and trips to meet other YMCA residents from across the country and the globe.

Hear Centre Manager Julie Botham and Housing Manager Steven Freakes:

Speaking to three young people who live at Pinder House, they all tell Stray FM that their lives have changed for the better since moving in.
