Love the High Street - Harrogate

Published at 7:10am 28th October 2013. (Updated at 8:36am 30th October 2013)

Back in March, we set aside a week of programming to celebrate what's great about six of our local town and city centres.

The response was so good, we've decided to do it all over again, but this time in five new locations.

Every day this week, we'll be featuring local businesses in Wetherby, Masham, Grassington, Pateley Bridge, and first up on Monday, Harrogate.

Shoppers in the town are perhaps spoilt for choice when it comes to finding independent traders.

Harrogate is famous for its horticulture, with RHS Garden Harlow Carr attracting thousands of visitors every year, and the annual Spring and Autumn Flower Shows the main event for many green-fingered enthusiasts.

The Harrogate International Centre is also a huge draw, contributing millions to the local economy as it hosts annual events such as the Country Living Christmas Fair, the Knitting and Stitching Show and the Tip-Ex UK conference, to name a few.

And of course, the Great Yorkshire Show is another of Harrogate's big attractions.King's Rd resize

The town is filled with hundreds of independent shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs.

For Love the High Street, we're concentrating on four areas close to the town centre which offer something different and unique.

Throughout the day, we'll be airing interviews with local traders talking about their business, the challenges they face and what makes them proud to be based in Harrogate.

Our focus will be on Cold Bath Road, Commercial Street (pictured, above), King's Road (right) and Westmoreland Street, so if you own an independent shop on any of these streets, get in touch and one of our reporters may pop in for a chat.
