Love the High Street - Masham

Masham Market Place 3

Masham is described as a lively and friendly community which has everything you'll need right on the doorstep.

There are plenty of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés, as well as a market which is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The town is also home to two animal feed manufacturers and two breweries - Theakston and Black Sheep.

It's got a packed calendar of events, including the Burn Valley Run half marathon, Masham Steam Engine and Fair Organ Rally, Masham Sheep Fair, Masham Arts Festival and the pre-Christmas Victorian Market.

Tourism is another big business, but work to upgrade the A1 to motorway status has caused some problems.

Signs which pointed visitors towards Masham and other communities in Lower Wensleydale were taken down.

That sparked a fierce campaign to have them reinstated, with support from local MP Julian Smith.

Flo Grainger, who owns the Old Station, is one of those leading the fight:

Lucy Scott Paul and her family moved to the area from Northumberland.

She now runs local shop Bah Humbugs and has told Stray FM about the business:
