WW1 Centenary: Communities unite to remember

On Monday 4 August 2014, communities across Harrogate, Craven and Wharfedale united in marking 100 years since Britain entered the First World War.

In the evening, towns and villages descended into darkness, with people turning all lights off and leaving just one candle burning.

Public buildings across Craven took part, with Skipton Town Hall leaving a single light on in the Main Chamber.

Libraries also turned off lights to commemorate the centenary.

Services took place across North Yorkshire, with a special service held at Ripon Racecourse during Children's Day.

War veterans joined members of The Royal British Legion to remember the fallen.
