As part of a Stray FM investigation into homelessness, we hear from people who devote their spare time to working with people who are homeless or live in vulnerable situations.

All this week, we have a special insight into the work of the Harrogate Homeless Project.

It is a local charity providing hostel emergency accommodation to adults and also operates a day centre called Springboard, which offers hot meals, refreshments, shower and laundry services.

Today, we hear from volunteers who work at Springboard.

Sophia has volunteered there since it first opened a year-and-a-half ago: "I don't quite know how I ended up volunteering at Springboard or being involved with the homeless, but it was just something suddenly I felt I needed to do.

"And having now become involved, I am very much more aware of an under-society in Harrogate that is really needy.

"Any visitor or the general public just doesn't see it."

Springboard works with other agencies too, with a timetable of support agencies operating out of the centre.

It also has weekly computer classes, a women's only session for female offenders or those at risk of offending and a gardening club.

It has two part-time staff and a team of volunteers who ensure the service stays open and operates safely.

The service has no funding and relies entirely on donations from the public.

Linda is one of the two part-time staff members:

Derek also works at Springboard. He initially used the service himself when he was living on the street, but he has now turned his life around and volunteers there. He says the centre needs the help from the public:
