Support for the homeless is sometimes hard to access.

In a special Stray FM investigation into homelessness in Harrogate, we hear from people who devote their spare time to working with people who are homeless or live in vulnerable situations.

Today, we hear from Sarah who uses Harrogate Homeless Project’s day centre, Springboard.

The project is a local charity providing hostel emergency accommodation to adults in the Harrogate District.

Through its day centre, it provides a hot meal, shower and laundry facilities, and offers computer classes, a gardening club and women-only sessions.

Sarah suffers from depression, anxiety and borderline personality disorder.

She explains how Springboard supports her, but she adds that she feels cut off from services as she lives in a rural place with little public transport.

This audio may be upsetting to some people:

Springboard works with other agencies and has a timetable of support agencies operating out of the centre.

It has two part-time staff and a team of volunteers who ensure the service stays open and operates safely.

The service has no funding and relies entirely on donations from the public.
