Boroughbridge is a market town with many selling points.

It is just a few minutes from the A1(M) and has easy access to places including Ripon, Harrogate, York, Leeds, the North York Moors and the Dales.

The town also has a wide range of independent shops, providing everything from locally-produced meat, fruit and vegetables to bridal gowns and household electrical items.

In most shops, customers will be served by the people who own them.

Around 75% are owned by women and the average trader has been running their business for 15 to 20 years.

Barbara Lambert-Hill, President of Boroughbridge and District Chamber of Trade, explains why the town is popular with visitors and traders alike:
