The first game of the new season at Harrogate Rugby Club's brand new home will be one to remember, as they face local rivals Otley.

More than 1,000 people are expected to gather at the Rudding Lane ground on Saturday.

The day will start with a short opening ceremony and unveiling of a plaque by president of the Yorkshire RFU, Brian Umpleby, followed by a blessing led by Reverend John Smith.

Ahead of kick-off at 3pm, the new Harrogate Rugby Club flag will be raised and the Mayor of Harrogate, Councillor Nigel Simms, will say a few words.

Club chairman James Smithies said: "What better way to welcome people to the new club ground than with a local derby which is set to be full of excitement.

"It has taken the club 15 years to finally move from our old home at Claro Road where we spent a very happy 119 years.

"This first match marks a significant milestone in Harrogate Rugby Club's history. We are very proud of the new clubhouse and grounds and we look forward to welcoming Otley here on Saturday."

Supporters can arrive on board the 770 bus service from Transdev, which will drop off at the newly named Harrogate Rugby Club stop on Rudding Lane.

Harrogate Rugby Club last played Otley in January and won 20-10.
