British rowing legend Matthew Pinsent says Olympic bosses have been "woeful" over their handling of the Russian doping scandal.

The four-time gold medal winner and former Dales schoolboy has been in Harrogate for a celebration held by Slingsby Gin.

In an interview with Stray FM, he revealed how he thought the International Olympic Committee had "swerved" a decision on whether to ban athletes over evidence of state-sponsored doping.

IOC officials have announced this week that they will instead leave it up to individual sports to decide.

Pinsent, who will commentate on this summer's Games for the BBC, also discussed the host venue and British medal prospects.

He spoke to Stray FM's Tom Harland:

You can hear more from the event, hosted by Spirit of Harrogate, on Thursday's Food and Drink Show on Stray FM at 7pm.
