Harrogate Town Football Club are offering students aged 16-18 the chance to embark on the club's BTEC Course as GCSE exams draw closer.

  • Harrogate Town AFC are running a BTEC course equivalent to 3 A-Levels
  • The qualification starts again in September 2019 and can lead to a career in football or a university degree
  • Students can also earn an American soccer scholarship at the end of the course

The football club are offering students the chance to play, train and learn alongside Harrogate Town AFC and Harrogate College through their 2 year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport course.

The qualification works as an equivalent to three A Levels and can lead to a university degree in a sports related subject, such as a BSc (Hons) in Physical Education, or work as a pathway into the football industry.

The club can also offer students the chance to earn an American soccer scholarship at the conclusion of their studies.

Open to girls and boys aged between 16-18, the programme involves four days of training a week alongside a dedicated education timetable.

Simon Weaver, the first team Manager at Harrogate Town, said:

"It's important to me that we get young footballers, or young people passionate about football, fitness or coaching into the building. Let them enjoy the facilities and yet get an education out of it.

"I played myself and found a lot of teammates not back their careers up with education and found they had to start again at the very least, so it's a great format and a really good course."

The BTEC courses at Harrogate Town run annually, with the next programme starting in September 2019. To find out more about the qualification and how to get involved, contact Commercial Director Ged Maloney at gedmaloney@harrogatetownafc.com or contact the club office on 01423 210600.
