Harrogate's lights are on, but when will we see Christmas arrive near you? What can you expect from light switch ons in Skipton, Ilkley, Ripon and beyond?

When are the Christmas Lights being switched on in Skipton?

Skipton's Christmas Lights will be lit up as part of a brand new event on Sunday 25th November from 10am - 6pm.

What can you expect at the Skipton Christmas Lights Switch On?

High Street Closure

This year, the switch on event has moved from its traditional Craven Court home onto the High Street itself, which will be closed to traffic all day.

Main Stage and Live Entertainment

Britain's Got Talent finalists Boogie Storm will be wowing the crowds with their incredible Dancing Storm Troopers routine.

There'll also be a whole host of live music on the main stage at the top of Skipton High Street, featuring dance groupsbands and more from the local area.

Meet Santa... on a boat!

A special Santa's Grotto boat will be in the Canal Basin including some special festive boat rides.

Skipton Santa Fun Run

The traditional annual event that sees 2000 Santas charge around Skipton is now part of the switch on day!

Loads of family fun and entertainment

As well as all of the above there'll be:

  • Elves Workshops on the High Street where you can write your letters to Santa!
  • Christmas Puppet Making workshops
  • Circus workshops
  • Nativity tent
  • Donkey rides
  • Pretty Ponies in Craven Court shopping centre 
  • Birds of Prey
  • FAIRGROUND RIDES on the High Street
  • Festive walkabout entertainment

When are the Christmas Lights being switched on in Ilkley?

Ilkley's celebration in on Saturday 24th November from 2pm - 6pm, with the illumination moment at 5pm.

What can you expect at the Ilkley Christmas Lights Switch On?

Christmas Market

The Grove in Ilkley will be lined with stalls selling Christmas fayre, including the obligatory food and mulled wine!

 

Christmas Carols

As you're browsing the market you can join in with traditional Christmas Carols from the Bradford Concert Band until 3:30pm.

Stray FM and Local Entertainment

Stray FM's Nick Hancock will host the bandstand featuring a programme of live entertainment from Ilkley Gymnastics Club, followed by Singers from That Sing Thing and dancers from Performance Dance School.

Santa's Grotto

As always, Santa will be meeting good little boys and girls in his Grotto at Christchurch Ilkley.

Santa's Christmas Procession

Guiseley Brass Band will play for the arrival of Santa’s procession at Christchurch. The Town Council are asking children and parents who wish to take part in this year’s procession to carry some safe form of lighting (torches or battery operated lanterns).

The procession will assemble in the War Memorial Gardens and depart at 4.50pm, ready for the 5pm switch on.

When are the Christmas Lights being switched on in Ripon?

Ripon's festivities will take place on Saturday 24th November, with the main event commencing at 3:45pm, and the switch on at 6pm, with Ripon's own motorcycling superstar Matt Stevenson

What can you expect at the Ripon Christmas Lights Switch On?

Stray FM host

Stray FM's very own Will Smith will host the event from 3:45pm.

Live Entertainment

Local band THE MIXTAPES will rock Ripon's Market Square from 4pm until the arrival of Santa at 5:50pm.

Paw Patrol and other Children's Characters

Characters from Paw Patrol, Fireman Sam and even Goofy will be at the event all afternoon for photos with your children.

Rides, Stalls and Falconry

Throughout the day there will be rides and stalls in the City Centre to get you in the festive spirit. There'll also be some stunning falconry displays.

Knaresborough will celebrate their annual Bright Friday event, the antidote to Black Friday, on Friday 23rd November at 6pm.

What can you expect at the Knaresborough Christmas Lights Switch On?

Bright Friday

Conceived as the antidote to the rush and raucousness of the commercialised Black Friday, Bright Friday aims to support Knaresborough's independent businesses.

Christmas Tree Lighting

A traditional evening around the Christmas tree, the event focuses on lighting up the iconic tree.

Entertainment

You can expect music, dance, carol singing, food, drink and not to forget a visit from Santa.
