UCI World Championships Guide Day 1: Para-Cycling International races

Harrogate is hosting the biggest event in the cycling season, the UCI Road World Championships – with riders from all over the world coming to Yorkshire to compete for the iconic rainbow jersey.
The racing starts on Saturday 21st September with the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling, before the Championships themselves kick off the following day.
Which races are happening? Which roads are closed? What are the timings?
Everything you need to know about para-cycling, as Harrogate hosts the finish of every race.
- The Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International takes place on Saturday 21st September 2019.
- It is the first time a para-cycling event has been run alongside the Championships.
- On the day, 26 races will take place across all four para-cycling classifications.
- Races start in Beverley, Tadcaster, Wetherby and finish in Harrogate.
- Road closures begin from 6am and end by 7:30pm.

Which races are taking place to coincide with the UCI World Championships on Saturday 21st September?
In total there are 26 races taking place on Saturday 21st September, all part of the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International, which is technically a separate event from the UCI Road World Championships. It's the first time that Para-Cycling has featured alongside the World Championships.
The races encompass all four para-cycling classifications. These are:
B - Tandem (visually impaired riders with a sighted pilot on the front),
C - Bicycle (riders with physical impairments using an adapted bicycle to assist them),
H - Handcycle (riders with impairments affecting either both legs or a combination of the upper and lower limbs),
T - Tricycle (riders with cerebral palsy, neurological conditions or unable to ride a bicycle)
There are a total of 13 classifications of male and female riders. They start from the following locations:

Where and when are the roads closed for the 2019 Para-Cycling event on Saturday 21st September?
There will be a number of road closures throughout the day, with the longer closures being in place around central and eastern areas of Harrogate.
As there are various races taking place the road closures are "fixed" so will remain closed for the times set.
Yorkshire 2019 have provided the following map of road closures for the main route, with timings for the closures:
- Amber means the race route is closed but designated route crossing and access points are open.
- Red means the race route and designated route crossing and access points are closed.
- Outside of red and amber times the roads are open.

Harrogate Road Closures
As Harrogate is the finish and main hub for all UCI World Road Cycling Championship events, there are longer road closures in place.
The Harrogate Circuit will be closed on the morning for training and familiarisation for the riders taking part in later events.

Where can I watch the cycling at the UCI World Championships on Saturday 21st September?
The Yorkshire 2019 Fan Zone will also be open from 09:00 - 21:00, including views of the finish, televised race action on the big screen, entertainment and loads of stalls. The Fan Zone will be located on the West Park Stray.
You are welcome to watch from any part of the route on the side of the road - just make sure you stay safe and back from the road!
