Everything you need to know about the first official day of the Road Cycling World Championships, as Harrogate hosts the first ever team time trial mixed relay.

  • The Championships start the day after the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International, on Sunday 22nd September 2019.
  • The morning will see thousands of amateur cyclists take part in the official World Championships sportive.
  • The racing starts in the afternoon with the first-ever Team Time Trial Mixed Relay.
  • Both the sportive and Team Time Trial Mixed Relay start and finish in Harrogate.
  • Various temporary road closures will be in place across Harrogate.

Which races are taking place at the UCI Road World Championships on Sunday 22nd September?

The morning will see thousands of amateur cyclists take part in the official World Championships sportive. Three routes are on offer of varying lengths and difficulty. All three routes will start on Parliament Street and end at the Yorkshire Showground.

The racing starts in the afternoon with the brand-new Team Time Trial Mixed Relay.

They start and finish from the following locations:

  • Harrogate (28km) - Team time trial mixed relay. 
  • Harrogate (72.1km, 97.7km and 149.6km) - Short, medium and long sportive. These begin at the official finish line of Yorkshire 2019 on West Park and end at the Great Yorkshire Showground. They take place on OPEN roads, so cars will be using the roads alongside the cyclists.

What time are the races taking place on Sunday 22nd September?

The sportive events begin from 07:15 and will continue into the afternoon as riders complete the three distances.

The Team Time Trial begins around 12:40 and is due to finish around 16:00.

Where and when are the roads closed for the UCI World Road Cycling Championships on Sunday 22nd September?

There are no road closures for the sportive once it leaves Harrogate, but the Team Time Trial Mixed Relay takes places on the Harrogate Circuit meaning lengthy closures for that route throughout the day.

As Harrogate is the finish and main hub for all UCI World Road Cycling Championship events, there are longer road closures in place.

Where can I watch the cycling at the UCI World Championships on Sunday 22nd September?

The UCI World Championship Fan Zone will also be open from 09:00 - 18:30, including views of the finish, televised race action on the big screen, entertainment and loads of stalls. The Fan Zone will be located on the West Park Stray.
