It was a bit drier today

The weather was kinder to us today after yesterday's downpours.  But we still had one crash due to slippery roads.

Harry here on the live blog this afternoon with coverage of the Men's Elite Individual Time Trial.  The riders are just setting off from Northallerton en-route to Harrogate.

And we're off

The Men's Elite Individual Time Trial is now underway

Surprise call

Surprise call up Team GB's John Archibald for today's event.

He scopped a bronze medal at the weekend in the Mixed Team Time Trial.

Good luck and fingers crossed for the double later.

Champion volunteers

The people that give their time for free are littered around the routes across the Harrogate borough.

They're proud to be involved in an event on this scale!

''Ey up!"

What says Yorkshire, then a flat cap!

That's proper champion, that, lad.

Deignan enters final phase of prep

Otley's Lizzie Deignan is getting ready for her race.

The mum-of-one who now lives in Harrogate is set to compete in the Womenโ€™s Elite Road Race - taking place on Saturday.

Despite living in town, she's staying at a hotel as her mental and physical preparation enters its final stage.

Lizzie's race will begin in Bradford at 11.40am and finish 150km later at 3.36pm in Harrogate with three laps of the town centre circuit.

Come on Lizzie!!!! Best of luck!

Help comes in all shapes and sizes

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue came to the rescue when roads on yesterday's route became submerged by surface water.

I guess it was all hands on deck.

But watching some of the footage from yesterday's racing, swim wear and googles may have been better rather than the lycra suits worn by athletes.

Road closures

More amber closures are in place - so don't get caught out.

They're in place up until 12.30pm.

Just a reminder, amber means the route can be crossed only by pedestrians and vehicles.

These latest ones affect:

Northallerton/Morton on Swale/Leeming Bar/Aiskew/Bedale/Thornton Watlass

Too close for comfort?

The photographer in this image is getting some grief - many claim he's too close to the cyclist on what is a tricky turn on the Harrogate circuit.

What do you think?

It's raining, it's pouring

Thankfully the rain seems to be holding off - at the moment.

But was this anyone yesterday?

Northallerton's getting cycling ready

Today's Men's Elite Individual Time Trial starts in Northallerton. Stray FM's at the start line - quiet at the moment but hopefully the crowds will gather to cheer on the cyclists.

Will Smith on the road with the local officers

Drivetime presenter Will Smith will be traveling around the Northallerton to Harrogate route with North Yorkshire Police, traffic officer Paul Cording.

They'll get right into the thick of it with the blues and twos - only as and when needed obviously!

The Men's Elite Individual Time Trial doesn't kick off yet for a good few hours.

Full road closures

Full closures are now in place around the Harrogate Circuit and Ripon Road sector.

These will reopen at 12pm - but only for vehicle and pedestrian crossing.

Belgian bobbies on the beat

Help and support has come far and wide - these Belgian police officers braved the wet weather and teamed up with their counterparts in Ripon yesterday.

What a great European-team! Thank you for your efforts!

The UCI Road World Championships will attract millions of roadside spectators and hundreds of millions of television viewers across the globe.

And look.........these pictures have been shared by an American tourist! Ripon's gone stateside!

Full road closures coming up

Now whilst today's race starts in Northallerton - the Harrogate Circuit will be closed this morning for training.

From 9.30am, the following are closed:

Kings Road & Cheltenham Parade (A61)

Otley Road (B6162), Pot Bank (B6161), Oaker Bank (B6161), Penny Pot Lane, Cornwall Road, Harlow Moor Drive, Harlow Moor Road, Valley Drive, Herefore Road, Kent Road

Ripon Road (A61) (Hydro - Parliament Street), Swan Road, Crescent Road

For more information on exact timings, click here.

Now that's what I call music

Spectators are cheering on the cyclists with cow bells - but what about this?

It's ace!

You can never do enough training

Despite a gruelling a 54km race ahead of them, some of the cyclists were up early  getting some early morning training in:

'Gearing' up for the cyclists

Towns and villages along today's route are getting ready to welcome the Men's Elite.

Look at these preparations in Masham:

Who's racing today?

It's the turn of the Men's Elite Individual Time Trial.

They'll travel from Northallerton to Harrogate - traveling through Masham, Ripley and Killinghall.

This all kicks off around 1pm.

It means vehicles and pedestrians can still cross but you can not drive down Ripon Road.

More to follow!

May from the News team here.

Thank goodness the rain has eased! After some shocking scenes in yesterday's racing, let's hope there ins't as much chaos today for the Men's Elite Individual Time Trial.

However, the heavy downpours didn't put many off - including these guys:

More to follow
