Emergency crews in North Yorkshire are urging people not to ignore flood warning signs.

It comes after the occupants of two cars had to be rescued from a lane near Skipton last night.

The fire service was called to Heslaker Lane, Carleton, where a woman and a small child were trapped in their vehicle which had broken down in flood water.

Later in the evening, a second car drove into the same area and one woman was rescued.

Yesterday, the Environment Agency issued a Flood Alert for the River Aire Upper Catchment from Gargrave to Stockbridge.

The fire service has warned to drivers not to risk their own safety by ignoring signs and trying to pass through the flood water.
