A new canal bridge in Skipton will open up land for around 300 new homes.

Work on the bridge at Horse Close will start from April, thanks to a £850,000 grant from the Local Growth Fund.

The project, which could also lead to new business developments, is one of six regeneration schemes to get the go-ahead across the Leeds City Region.

It is hoped that the move will provide opportunities for local people to secure new homes to rent and buy at affordable prices, as well as creating jobs.

Councillor Richard Foster, Leader of Craven District Council, said: "A new bridge would improve access for existing homes in the area, as well as providing the necessary infrastructure for the potential development of a large housing site in Skipton."
