Police are investigating thefts from ticket machines in Skipton's High Street Car Park.

They happened sometime overnight between Sunday 8 and Monday 9 February and overnight between Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 February.

During the first incident, lighting in the car park was disabled by the offenders to allow them to work in darkness.

PC Rich Sutcliffe, of Skipton's Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "This was a well-planned and organised attack on the car park ticket machines. Offenders spent some time disabling all the light stands before breaking into the ticket machines.

"The machines themselves are armoured and it would have taken some time to break open the machines in the way they did. It also would have created a certain amount of noise and circumstances at the scene suggest suspects may well have been disturbed from the scene on their first visit.

"The machines have been damaged to the extent that repairs will run into thousands of pounds and a substantial amount of cash was removed from the vaults of the machines over the two incidents."
