A community group has been named as the preferred applicant to take over the running of Ilkley's Manor House Museum.

The future of the attraction, which dates back to the 19th century, has been in doubt after funding cuts.

Ilkley All Saints Parochial Church Council says it wants to provide a "community facility that responds to the needs of Ilkley and develop the site as a popular visitor attraction".

In March, four organisations submitted an expression of interest in taking over running of the museum and gallery from Bradford Council after it closed to the public on 13 April.

The decision to confirm Ilkley All Saints Parochial Church Council as the preferred applicant was taken at a meeting of the full council.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, portfolio holder for Employment, Skills and Culture, said: "We are extremely grateful to the Manor House Friends and the New Manor House Group for their support in helping the Council achieve its ambition to move the site to community management.

"I look forward to working with Ilkley All Saints Parochial Church Council as we embark on a new future for the site."
