A special 'Armed Forces Flag' has been raised at Skipton Town Hall to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

The short ceremony was attended by veterans from the Royal British Legion, The Duke of Wellington Association and the Royal Navy.

Craven District Council's chairman, Councillor Robert Mason, hosted the event which coincided with similar ceremonies across the UK.

Roger Lowans, from Holy Trinity Church, offered a prayer over the flag.

Armed Forces Week will conclude with a parade through Skipton on Sunday 28 June.

Representatives from the forces and veterans will gather on Otley Street at 3pm and march to the war memorial on the High Street for the lowering of the flag.
