People are being encouraged to support an awards scheme which recognises and celebrates the region's brave children.

Organisers of the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards are still looking for nominations.

Now in its fifth year, the event is being held at New Dock Hall in Leeds on Friday 16 October.

Originally launched in 2011, the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards is now firmly established on the Yorkshire calendar as an annual fundraising event.

The 2013 ceremony and dinner raised over £51,000 for local causes and last year's event raised £100,000.

The Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards are being supported by Manning Stainton estate agents.

Marcelle Goldberg, from the Harrogate branch, said: "We are a family-run, independent company and we like to be there in the heart of our community. In 2014, we donated in excess of £100,000 to a variety of good causes in the community in which we operate.

"We have 18 high street offices and we do like to get involved and support people. We do a lot for Macmillan as well."

Yorkshire businesswoman and TV business expert Kate Hardcastle is a Friend of the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards.

She said: "You will know of a child or some children who've gone above and beyond, who've helped others, who've done some fundraising or who've been suffering from an illness themselves, who would absolutely love this recognition. Just to go to this glittering awards ceremony is such an exciting night for people."

Nominations close on Wednesday 29 July and you can find out more about the categories and make a nomination by clicking here.
