Security presence on Ilkley Moor

Security presence on Ilkley Moor

Campaigners have raised concerns about the level of high-profile security being used on Ilkley Moor.

Security guards were seen patrolling during a grouse shoot on neighbouring Bingley Moor, with claims they were blocking access to Keighley Road.

Their deployment follows protests earlier this month about the continuation of shooting on the publicly-owned land.

Bradford Council, which has responsibility for the Moor, has yet to confirm whether it authorised the security presence.

Luke Steele, spokesperson for Ban Bloodsports on Ilkley Moor (BBIM), said: "Ilkley Moor is a public space designated for the enjoyment its users, with visitors flocking to enjoy the landscape during the busy summer months.

"BBIM is calling on Bradford Council to give answers on whether it authorised this forceful operation and, if not, take appropriate action to ensure this does not happen again."

Stray FM has contacted Bradford Council asking for a comment, but has yet to receive a reply.
