A group set up in Ilkley to help people living in the Calais refugee camp has had an "overwhelming" response.

'Ilkley Caring for Calais' is collecting clothing, sleeping bags, tents and other supplies until Monday.

Sarah Helliwell formed the group with a couple of her friends earlier this month.

She said: "We've been completely overwhelmed by people's generosity and the amount of stuff that we've been able to collect in a very short period of time.

"At the moment, it seems they're quite busy with donations, so what we are probably going to do is store stuff for a week or two until until the organisations over there are ready to receive more donations.

"We are also in touch with some local refugee charities in Bradford and Leeds, so some of the stuff that isn't appropriate we're going to be passing on to them."

The group is also asking for donations of cardboard boxes to store and transport the supplies.
