Call for Ilkley Carnival 'dream themes'

Call for Ilkley Carnival 'dream themes'

Published at 8:02am 27th September 2015.

Ilkley Carnival organisers are calling on local people to help choose their dream theme for 2016.

The annual event has embraced the Tour de Yorkshire, musicals and children’s literature in recent years, with last year’s Fantasy and Fiction theme attracting more than 1,400 people into the parade.

Now, the committee is reaching out to children, parents and local organisations for ideas and inspiration to create a show-stopping 2016 Carnival.

Chairman Andrew Stacey said: "We want to kick-start the Ilkley Carnival 2016 conversation by getting theme suggestions from local people to fuel our ideas for next year's event.

"We know all the schools and organisations spend a lot of time creating costumes and putting a huge effort into the parade, so there’s no better way to gauge public opinion on what would make a dream theme than to ask those heavily involved in the creative process."

A May Day bank holiday celebration has been a tradition in Ilkley for over 100 years and the Carnival has brought and distributed money into the local community for over three decades, raising over £39,000 in the last three years.

Andrew added: "The right theme for Ilkley Carnival has a huge impact on everyone involve,d so we're hoping local people give us lots of ideas to think about!"

Suggestions can be e-mailed directly to the committee at carnisec@gmail.com before Tuesday 8 October.
