Two fish and chip shops in Skipton have maintained their place among the UK's top shops.

Bizzie Lizzie's, on Swadford Street and High Street Car Park, has once again scooped the prestigious NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award.

They are two of only 250 shops to hold this award and have retained the prestigious title for 12 years.

The award closely follows on from Bizzie Lizzie's gaining Coeliac Accreditation.

The National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) runs the scheme as a way of raising standards within the industry.

It rewards and promoting shops which provide good-quality products and high standards of hygiene, as well as friers who show a high level of competence.

To qualify, each shop must be inspected by an NFFF Approved Assessor who scrutinises the shop's presentation, hygiene and cleanliness, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills, and most importantly, the quality of the cooked product.

Allan and Katie Davison said: "We are delighted to have been given the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award for the 12th year. At Bizzie Lizzie's, our aim has always been to provide fresh food at affordable prices to give customers a fantastic dining experience every single time they visit us.

"We've worked hard to make sure that our food is of the highest quality, both in our restaurants and takeaways. Our track record of success is thanks to the care we take in sourcing our produce, as well as carrying out regular staff training sessions to ensure we always maintain our high hygiene standards, cooking expertise and customer service. It is very gratifying to see all our efforts rewarded by the NFFF."

Richard Wardell, NFFF Training and Accreditation Manager, added: "The NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award assessment is extremely comprehensive. Food safety is a key area that we examine together with other key aspects of the business, including the preparation and cooking equipment, to the management of paperwork and the traceability of fish.

"Bizzie Lizzie's clearly takes pride in where it sources its fish and potatoes from. Achieving the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award provides reassurance to customers that they are being served cooked food using high-quality ingredients. It's a great achievement for such a new organisation."

Each Fish and Chip Quality Award is valid for two years and retaining it is dependent on standards being maintained, as validated by NFFF officials and appointed assessors.
