Martin House Children's Hospice is offering people the chance to remember someone special by making a dedication through its Light up a Life Appeal.

Donations made over the Christmas period will go towards supporting families across North and West Yorkshire.

Supporters can dedicate a Christmas tree light to a significant family member or friend and receive a personalised keepsake card in honour of their named person.

All dedications will also be included in commemorative books at St Mary's Church in Boston Spa and Holy Trinity Church in Skipton.

The books will remain on display until Twelfth Night, and new additions can be accepted over Christmas and New Year.

Sheila O'Leary, Director of Care at Martin House, said: "Our Light up a Life Appeal allows you to commemorate the lives of special friends or family members, whilst raising vital funds for children and young people cared for by Martin House.

"Last year, we provided care and support for over 400 families and 150 bereaved families at our hospice and out in the community. A Light up a Life dedication is one of many ways you can help us to continue supporting families across the region, ensuring they can live well and fully for as long as they need us."

This year, supporters will also have the opportunity to attend candlelit services at St Mary's Church, Boston Spa, on Tuesday 8 December and Holy Trinity Church, Skipton, on Thursday 10 December.

Both services will include carols, prayers and time for remembering.

Rector Veronica James, of Holy Trinity Church, said: "Christmas can be a time when we remember loved ones who have died, but it is also a time for celebration.

"We are delighted to be hosting Martin House's new Light up a Life service at Holy Trinity and we would encourage anyone who is looking for a special way to remember someone close to them to come along.

"As well as celebrating a life, your dedication will make a big difference to hospice families, many of which come from the Craven District."

Dedications can be made online, at a Martin House shop or over the phone by calling the fundraising team on 01937 844569.
