Organisers of Ilkley Carnival are urging local groups to apply for the chance to receive 50% of profits from this year's event.

The remaining funds will be shared among organisations who help on and around the day.

Last year, just over £12,000 was raised, with 50% being split between four primary beneficiaries.

They were All Saints' Primary School, Ben Rhydding Primary School, Ilkley Pre-School Playgroup and Ben Rhydding Pre-School Playgroup.

Carnival Chairman Andrew Stacey said: "Ilkley Carnival has raised more than £40,000 in the last four years, which has gone towards charities such as LS29 Special Needs, Ilkley and District Good Neighbours and our first ever group of primary beneficiaries, the four schools last year.

"Selecting a primary beneficiary to receive 50% of profits raised gives Ilkley Carnival the chance to make a significant difference to a specific group in or area of our community, and with as much as £7,500 donated in one year to one organisation, we really would encourage any interested parties to get in touch before this year's deadline.

"If we have another successful year, the money raised can make a huge difference to our beneficiaries."

The 2016 Ilkley Carnival theme is 'Best of British', with the committee expecting plenty of colour and creativity to decorate the streets and parade on May Day Bank Holiday.

Tracy Fearnley, Deputy Manager of Ilkley Pre-School Playgroup, which received a share of £6,000 from Ilkley Carnival last year, said: "The funds we received from the Carnival went towards school trips for the children and funded natural resources to help improve our outdoor play area.

"Ilkley Carnival is a wonderful event that does so much good for local organisations and children - we're delighted to have been a primary beneficiary for 2015 and encourage other local groups to apply for support in 2016."

Interested parties can apply at or by e-mailing Ilkley Carnival secretary Mari Hunt on for an application form.

The deadline is Friday 19 February and successful shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview on Wednesday 2 March.
