Communities are being encouraged to make the most of this year's Tour de Yorkshire by visiting special roadshows.

Tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire has teamed up with local authorities to organise events in places including Pateley Bridge, Settle and Thirsk.

They will share information on how to get involved, build excitement and maximise the benefits of media coverage.

The roadshows will also focus on using the cycle race to generate business over the whole year.

Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "This is the third year we've gone out to local communities to share information about how the race works and to discuss how businesses and communities can make it a spectacular weekend.

"The feedback from the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire was extremely positive and I'd encourage everyone on the route, particularly those in areas the race hasn't visited before, to come along and find out how to make it your Tour."

Around 100 people recently turned out for an event in Settle and heard how much money was generated for businesses from last year's event.

Paul Shevlin, Chief Executive of Craven District Council, said: "This was a very positive meeting - Settle businesses were pleased to hear how they can make the most of the Tour de Yorkshire and promote themselves to a wider audience.

"It was great to hear from Sir Gary about the benefits of the event and people were really fired up by his enthusiasm.

"There will be TV coverage of the entire route, shown around the world, and thousands of cycling fans will be descending on the area for the race, so it's important our local businesses can capitalise on this."
