Over 12,000 votes have already been cast for the brand new Yorkshire Choice Awards.

They have been launched to honour the region's finest local individuals, entrepreneurs and organisations.

Voting closes on 29 February and organisers Jo Maltby and Melanie Malcolm will then start the long process of verifying the votes.

Jo, who is also founder of Handpicked Local and champion of local businesses through #WetherbyHour, said: "We've had a phenomenal response to the awards so far: proof that Yorkshire really does thrive on amazing people!

"We're proud to be representing a truly exceptional list of nominees, and the number of votes cast to date aptly reflects everyone's incredible contribution in their community."

This year's Yorkshire Choice Awards will support Martin House Children's Hospice.

It helps many families affected by life-limiting illnesses and relies primarily on donations and fundraising.
