The creator of Happy Valley has called for more northern accents on TV.

Yorkshire-born Sally Wainwright says we've become "so used to hearing posh southern voices in the media."

Her remarks follow those of Dame Julie Walters, who claimed a career in acting has increasingly become the preserve of the wealthy.

The second series of Happy Valley - starring Oldham-born Sarah Lancashire (pictured) - recently came to an end.

It bounced back from problems in the first series of poor sound and actors allegedly "mumbling" their lines.

Sally has told the latest edition of the Radio Times "it has always been refreshing to hear other accents. It still is."
