A spokesman said: "A North Yorkshire County Council highways officer and maintenance team were on site this afternoon at Ripon Market Place after reports of movement of setts in the carriageway near the Sainsbury’s store.

"The road has been closed as a safety measure. A temporary repair will be carried out as soon as possible to make the carriageway safe so that the road can be reopened. It is hoped to reopen the road this evening. Further investigations will then be undertaken. At this stage, the cause of the problem is not known."

Police are warning homeowners to be on their guard, after a distraction burglary in Harrogate.

On Wednesday 27 April, three men turned up at an elderly man's home on Rossett Avenue and told him they were there to check the roof.

They claimed it would need substantial work, costing thousands of pounds.

The victim handed over cash, but more money was stolen from inside the property whilst he was inspecting the work outside.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have just released an update on last night's fire on Ilkley Moor:

"Firefighters worked hard overnight to put out a large fire on Ilkley moor, close to White Wells (Wells Road).

"Crews were called to the fire at 10.13pm yesterday (08/05/16) and fire engines from Otley, Silsden and Rawdon attended  as well as the Wildfire Unit from Keighley Fire Station.

"This was a large fire measuring around 200 metres by 100 metres.

"Around 20 firefighters used beaters and water to put the flames out.

"The fire took around 2 hours to get under control.

"Crews came away shortly after 4am today. The fire is now out.

"Assistant District Commander for Bradford, Chris Hannah, said: "It was a difficult fire to fight because it was on a steep banking. Firefighters worked really hard."

"The cause of the fire is unknown."

For those of you asking, we're just awaiting an update on last night's fire on Ilkley Moor (see below). It appears to have been brought under control this morning, but we await confirmation.

Of course it's 10 years since a large part of the Moor was severely damaged by a huge fire, which had a devastating impact on local wildlife.

No doubt, that memory was fresh in people's minds last night.

You'd imagine there are some pretty sore throats this morning among the Harrogate Town fans who traveled to Fylde for their play-off semi final 2nd leg yesterday.

By all accounts they sang throughout.

Sadly for Town, the game finished 1-1 on the day, 2-1 on aggregate, meaning their season's now over.

But the club's posted some great photos from their big day out which are worth a look...

We're keeping an eye on Teesside Crown Court this morning, where a North Yorkshire restaurant owner goes on trial.

Mohammed Khalique Zaman, 53, is accused of the manslaughter of a customer with a peanut allergy at the Indian Garden in Easingwold - in the first UK case of its kind.

Paul Wilson, 38,  from Helperby, died from an allergic reaction after eating a takeaway curry in January last year.

Mr Zaman denies manslaughter by gross negligence.

So this morning's top story is the fire - measuring around 300 square metres - that broke out overnight on Ilkley Moor. More details here.
