Police in North Yorkshire are hunting a sex offender who has breached the terms of his licence.

55-year-old Barry Gibson was given a life sentence in 2000 after being convicted of several offences.

He was released on licence on 26 November last year, but subject to a number of conditions.

Gibson, who was living in the Boroughbridge Road area of York, failed to comply with a condition on 6 May and was recalled to prison.

The last sighting of him was on the day before he breached his court order, outside the taxi rank near York Minster.

He was last seen wearing dark trousers and a jacket which is red on the top half and a dark colour on the bottom half, and was also carrying a JD Sports bag over his shoulder.

Officers say people must not approach Gibson and should report any sightings of him immediately by dialling 999.
