A former law student, who took an office assistant job to fund his studies, has become Newtons Solicitors' first trainee to qualify as a solicitor.

Ryan Carter, 24, started work at the firm's Knaresborough head office in 2013, whilst studying on the part-time Legal Practice Course in York.

Newtons' staff were so impressed with his diligence that Ryan was offered the chance to become a trainee in August 2014.

Voting has now opened to name West Yorkshire's new police horse.

Over 1.000 people have submitted names, with Batley, Denby, Digley, Lotherton and Stanley making the shortlist.

Organisers of the Great Yorkshire AirFest have cancelled this year's event.

The show, which was due to take place on 2 and 3 July, has been called off following a "particularly challenging" year for the air show community.

A three-year-old child has been found in a car which was involved in a high-speed chase on the A1 between Scotch Corner and Boston Spa.

The Audi A4 travelled at speeds over 100mph, weaving in and out of traffic and onto the hard shoulder.
