The family of a young Ilkley man who took his own life are urging anyone who is going through a difficult time not to suffer in silence.

Their plea comes as they organise a live music event in memory of 21-year-old Ben Williams, to raise funds for national charity PAPYRUS (Prevention of Young Suicide).

Ben's Band-a-Thon, at The Hollygarth Social Club on Saturday, will be a fitting tribute to Ben who loved a variety of music and was always singing along to something.

The outdoor event, from 2pm to 7pm, is free to attend and features bands including Elysium, Tunnel and Demoralise.

From 7pm to midnight, the event moves to the indoor stage for an over-18s ticketed evening, with another selection of local talent including The Big Picture, The Elephant Trees and The Swill.

All of the artists are donating their time to support the fundraiser.

Ben's dad, Kevin, has been speaking to Stray FM:

Ottilie Scanlon, a fundraising assistant for PAPYRUS, said: "Suicide is the main cause of death in young people under 35. Suicide can happen to any family and sadly it happens too often. But there is hope and there is help.

"I want to raise awareness and support the wonderful work PAPYRUS does, delivering practical help and support to suicidal young people and anyone who is worried that a young person they know is not coping with life.

"Emma and Kevin's support will help us to reach out to more young people who may be struggling. We rely heavily on donations to maintain our HOPELineUK helpline services and are hugely appreciative of Emma and Kevin's dedication in memory of Ben."
