A North Yorkshire police constable will face the force's first disciplinary hearing to be held in public.

PC 1347 Simon Ryan is accused of wearing a black woolly hat with the slogan "I love weed" - or words/pictures to that effect - while on duty at Northallerton Police Station.

It's claimed he was advised to remove the hat but carried on wearing it while on mobile patrol.

PC Ryan will also face allegations he made handwritten annotations to a document belonging to an occupant of a house that was being searched.

He is due to answer allegations next week that his conduct amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of Honesty and Integrity, Authority, Respect and Courtesy, Equality and Diversity, Orders and Instructions, Duties and Responsibilities, and Discreditable Conduct.

The police misconduct hearing has been scheduled for three days commencing Monday 13th June at 10.00 am.
