Police have confirmed that a collision at Junction 44 on the A1(M) was fatal.

Plans for major repairs on the flood-damaged Linton Bridge near Wetherby will be considered next week.

Leeds City Council's executive board is expected to approve proposals to spend up to £4.5 million on repairing the bridge which crosses the River Wharfe between Linton and Collingham.

It's been closed since Christmas, when flooding damaged the foundations and made it unsafe.

Police say lanes 2, 3 and 4 are due to reopen soon.


The two chicks of peregrine falcons at Malham Cove have taken their first flights.

Staff and volunteers from the RSPB and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority are running a special viewpoint where visitors can watch the chicks and their parents.

Jon Carter, RSPB Face to Face Area Manager, said: "Now is the perfect time to come and see the young peregrines taking to the air.

"They are discovering just what their powerful wings are for and have been spotted swooping and playing above us, as well as perching out on the iconic ledges of Malham Cove. It's the ideal backdrop for visitors to witness these famously fast falcons in action."

A Wetherby man, who uses a wheelchair, has taken his four-year legal battle to the Supreme Court today.

Doug Paulley was told he couldn't travel on a bus, after a mother refused to move her pushchair because her baby was sleeping.

The bus company argued it could only request, rather than require, another passenger to move.



The A1(M) has been closed southbound between Junctions 44 and 43 after a serious collision.

Police say there's likely to be disruption for some time.
