Bolton Castle is a spectacular castle in Yorkshire offering fun family days out and a truly unique Wedding Venue in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Bolton Castle provides a huge range of exciting things to do in Wensleydale, Yorkshire. From family days out to educational trips and historic tours, you will find a raft of sights, sounds and smells which bring the castle to life and make for a truly memorable trip.

Bolton Castle is one of the country’s best-preserved medieval castles; originally built as one of the finest and most luxurious homes in the land, the castle bears the scars of over 600 years of fascinating history. The castle is still in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, the direct descendant of the castle’s original owner Sir Richard le Scrope (Knight of the Shire in Yorkshire).

Daily Activities

Witness magnificent flying displays from Hawks and Owls in the Castle Gardens and experience the incredible sight of the falcon stooping to the lure against the spectacular backdrop of the Castle. Experience the excitement of Wild Boar feeding time and learn more about archery in sport, hunting, and warfare during our Medieval Archery talks. Visit the Wensleydale sheep and the bees in their hives. (Bees are seasonal so are only likely to be active between April and September.)

Try the Half Day Falconry experience to learn more about looking after these amazing birds or join the Falconer on a Hawk Walk to experience flying the friendly Harris Hawk. Booking is essential for both experiences and Gift Vouchers are available.

Bolton Castle opens every day from 15th February until the 1st November 2020 and is open from 10 am - 5 pm.
